PT is too much Kojima

I've come to the demo of the new Silent Hills game, PT, rather late. That's what I get for not owning a PS4. Better late than never though, and despite my tardiness PT was both an enjoyable and terrifying experience. Except for all the bullshit.   The setting of a long suburban hallway that loops around on itself is a really clever one. It's a setting that feels familiar enough to put you at ease, and the small clues as to who lives there provide incentive to explore he space. The relative Read more [...]

They keep making videogame movies

Video game movies have a long and sordid history. After several fits, starts, Japan only releases and several movies that seemed only to vaguely understand the concept of what a video game was or even how a computer worked, the first true video game movie was released.   That movie was 1993's Super Mario Bros, and it set the tone for every video game movie that was to follow.     Throughout the 90's these travesties were continually churned out by studios only interested Read more [...]

Franchise is not a dirty word

'Where are all the new IPs?' It's a phrase that's all too familiar to us. Every year the same tired titles are trotted out, with a new feature or two and minor graphical upgrades that seek to obscure the facts its more of the same. The shelves of game stores (both real and digital) are overrun with sequels, HD remakes and series reboots, and if a large publisher does take a chance on a new IP, any success will mean a sequel is right around the corner . But is the practice of forming franchises Read more [...]

A Floppy Disk disappointingly isn't actually floppy...

My Top 5 Games EVER!

I’m not sure what compelled me to write this but I’ve been thinking about my top 5 games of all time, (or at least my current list) and thought I should list them out and discuss why they are my top 5. I should note these are my personal choices, if you think one of my top 5 is the worst game ever in your opinion then that is your choice, but these are mine. I’ll try not to be too long winded but let’s be honest, I may rant a bit and you will just have to bear with it if you want to read Read more [...]

How Twitch Plays Pokemon restored my faith in humanity

You could be forgiven for thinking that democracy is a failing system. With revolutions in parts of Eastern Europe, America turning into a George Orwell novel and the global banking system falling around our ears, it’s easy to be cynical about our system of government. It’s enough to make you think maybe we should go back to a feudal monarchy, like the good old days. Yet there’s a ray of light shining through our dark dystopian times, proof that despite the Read more [...]

Doctor Who Extreme Crossovers!

Howdy fellow Whovians! Well, if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, if there’s one thing Whovians like its Theories and LONG HOT FAN FICTION! The latest craze for us crazy obsessed bunch has been Doctor Who x Star Trek x Star Wars or Sherlock. Now, I’ve been thinking to myself, sure these are interesting ideas and yes, they would be fun but let’s face it team, now that we’ve got Mr Capaldi as your new demi-god to worship, we need some more hardcore crossovers appropriate Read more [...]

Half Life 3 won’t come

The secret patience test chamber under G-Man's office. DISCLAIMER: Everything in this article is its author's speculation. This is only my opinion - nothing more, nothing less. Half-Life 3, or Half-Life 2: Episode Three, is the ultimate joke when it comes to games stuck in development hell. People from all over the world have been expecting Valves vapourware to be released since its announcement in 2006. It has been delayed multiple times and today we are not even sure if it exists. I'm sorry your party is in another castle...

The new party multiplayer

Hanging out with friends used to be a big part of gaming. Going over to their place to play some SNES or breaking out the link cable in a lunch break for a quick pokebattle was all a part of the fun. And as we got a little older many a six pack was shared over a game of Mario Kart on a Friday night. If you wanted to share the gaming experience, you had to do it in person. But now that the internet is a thing I can log onto Steam at any time of day and play a game with thousands of people from all Read more [...]

Frosty Thumbite

Refracted Frostbite

I've been a big fan of the Battlefield series almost 10 years now. It provides a good balance between infantry and vehicular combat. A tone of the gameplay in the series ranges from being absurdly funny to making mild tactical decisions, such as storming an enemy base, after the commander has bombed it with artillery. It gives you a lot of options, while being simple and challenging: you can fly jets, heal wounded soldiers or Read more [...]

Why and when did releasing games in broken state become excusable?

A story about pile of cartridges and few thousand lines of code Seriously - when did releasing video games in a very buggy and glitchy state become excusable? Why those triple-A blockbusters, with giant names behind them are almost always broken? Why, at the start of this new console generation do they continue to ship games in this state? When did we accept that when we buy a product, be it in advance or on launch day, it will need multiple patches to reach the kind of stability we should be Read more [...]
