Trick ‘r Treat 2 to Go into Production

I love me some Halloween and it doesn’t get Halloweenier than 2009’s cult horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat. Although the project is yet to be officially given the green light, it’s said to be in the very early stages, Trick ‘r Treat writer and director Michael Dougherty announced at a special fan screening on Monday that a sequel to his Halloween anthology is on the way.

It’s funny because when I first dreamt up the idea of making the first film, I thought, “How neat would it be if we made them a series?” I’m a firm believer that October should be filled with Halloween movies, or horror movies. I think we’ll shake it up a little bit. There are different archetypes I’d like to explore different types of monsters. We covered werewolves, vampires, and zombies, but there’s a whole slew of different creatures out there that we haven’t tackled, and I think Sam would probably be pretty good buddies with. So I think it’s time to let them have their time in the sun.

Halloween movies in October, who’d have thunk it? What can I say? I’m a sucker for a Machete through the face.

Or a candy bar knife to the throat…

No complete script has yet to be completed or revised, but Legendary Pictures will be developing the project with the hopes of a theatrical release. Unlike the original film, which was originally produced for the big screen (and due to studio disagreements and so on), it ended up being delayed and eventually wound up as a straight to DVD release, but this horror fan thinks it deserved better.

Trick ‘r Treat 2 is targeting a Halloween 2015 release.
