Fourth Star Trek Is Happening With Chris Hemsworth

A fourth Star Trek film is definitely happening! That was according to series producer J.J. Abrams at a press conference to promote the new Justin Lin directed Star Trek Beyond when asked  if there would be a fourth installment.

”Yes! And there’s something that hopefully we’re figurative minutes away from talking about. But the answer is 100 percent yes, and it’s incredibly exciting.”

And now we can be certain, as although Star Trek Beyond won’t see its theatrical release until Friday in the US, Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot haven’t wasted any time in confirming that the crew of the U.S.S Enterprise would be back along with a familiar face we haven’t seen in a while. And who might that be?

“Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.”

That Chris Hemsworth (Thor) played the role of George Kirk, Captain James T. Kirk’s long dead father, in the opening minutes of the original Abrams directed Star Trek might not be known to everyone, but it looks like Hemsworth will be returning in some way for the fourth film in the series, probably in much the same way that saw Spock’s old and new come together in the first film via time travel.

Spoiler alert: He died due to excess lens flare exposure.

The franchise’ main cast; Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban are all expected to return for the fourth outing with the exception of Anton Yelchin who tragically passed away in June.

Star Trek Beyond is released in US theaters on Friday July 22, 2016 and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella
