Jackie – Film Review

I almost feel annoyed when Pablo Larraín’s “Jackie” is brought up in the same conversation as the sea of countless average “Oscar bait” biopics. At this point the genre mainly consists of underwhelming films with the primary goal of winning awards; and it works too. Think back to recent Academy Award nominated films, “The Theory of Everything”, “The Imitation Game”, “American Sniper”, “The Big Short”, “Trumbo” … etc. Whilst most of these movies are not terrible, they’re usually just bland or ‘okay’. But I can honestly say that “Jackie” has significantly more artistic integrity than not just most biopics, but most movies Read more [...]

La La Land: The Best film of 2016

When I initially left the theatre, I struggled to describe in words the mesmerising nature of director Damien Chazelle’s third feature-length film “La La Land”. Whereas I have never been an avid follower or fan of the musical genre, I’ve also never been opposed to it; whilst I find joy in classics such as “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “The Lion King”, I have found that more contemporary attempts Read more [...]

Fourth Star Trek Is Happening With Chris Hemsworth

A fourth Star Trek film is definitely happening! That was according to series producer J.J. Abrams at a press conference to promote the new Justin Lin directed Star Trek Beyond when asked  if there would be a fourth installment. ”Yes! And there’s something that hopefully we’re figurative minutes away from talking about. But the answer is 100 percent yes, and it’s incredibly exciting.” And now we can be certain, as although Star Trek Beyond won’t see its theatrical release until Read more [...]

Legendary Pictures Eyeing Live Action Pokemon Film

It’s been barely a week since Pokémon GO was launched in Australia, and just days since it has been released in the United States and Europe, but already Nintendo and Niantic owned augmented reality game has been so hugely successful that you can’t leave your house without passing dozens of people of all ages with their faces buried in their smart phones hunting high and low for Pokémon all over your city. The game has been so successful in fact, that in just a matter of days Read more [...]

How Will Darth Vader Fit Into Rogue One?

A long time ago (May 25, 1977 to be exact) Darth Vader was first introduced to audiences in the original Star Wars, which would later be re-titled A New Hope, and instantly became the most iconic villain in cinematic history, going on to become a beloved mascot for the franchise. Not bad considering franchise creator George Lucas thought the film would be such a colossal failure that he didn't even attend the films premiere. And now the heavy breathing, Dark Lord of the Sith is coming back Read more [...]

The Revenant – Film Review

A frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820's fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team (IMDB synopsis). ‘The Revenant’ directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu is nothing short of brilliant. Regarding visuals, the cinematography is excellent; it is used expertly in fight scenes to help create a chaotic atmosphere and also used to create a sense of isolation & hopelessness in the survival segments. They take full Read more [...]

Is It Time For A New Saw Film? Is it time for another installment in the Saw series? Producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules seem to think so! PT is too much Kojima

I've come to the demo of the new Silent Hills game, PT, rather late. That's what I get for not owning a PS4. Better late than never though, and despite my tardiness PT was both an enjoyable and terrifying experience. Except for all the bullshit.   The setting of a long suburban hallway that loops around on itself is a really clever one. It's a setting that feels familiar enough to put you at ease, and the small clues as to who lives there provide incentive to explore he space. The relative Read more [...]
