PT is too much Kojima

I've come to the demo of the new Silent Hills game, PT, rather late. That's what I get for not owning a PS4. Better late than never though, and despite my tardiness PT was both an enjoyable and terrifying experience. Except for all the bullshit.   The setting of a long suburban hallway that loops around on itself is a really clever one. It's a setting that feels familiar enough to put you at ease, and the small clues as to who lives there provide incentive to explore he space. The relative Read more [...]

They keep making videogame movies

Video game movies have a long and sordid history. After several fits, starts, Japan only releases and several movies that seemed only to vaguely understand the concept of what a video game was or even how a computer worked, the first true video game movie was released.   That movie was 1993's Super Mario Bros, and it set the tone for every video game movie that was to follow.     Throughout the 90's these travesties were continually churned out by studios only interested Read more [...]

Behind the Keyboard: The Nerd Cave Interview

In this installment of behind the keyboard I was lucky enough to have a sit down with Dave and Ben of the Nerd Cave, who have taken their passion for gaming and turned it into a space for everyone to come and share that passion. This interview has been edited slightly for length and readability, if you want to listen to the entire interview you can check it out here. Read more [...]

Review: Guardians of The Galaxy

Marvel Studios has officially done the impossible. They've turned a little known, little loved comic book title like Guardians of The Galaxy into cinematic gold. And cinematic gold translates to big bucks for Marvel! By now, Marvel Studios has managed to keep up a pretty steady pace, barely faltering at all along the way. Not every entry in their now very much established cinematic universe has been a complete masterpiece, but with each entry they prove time and time again they are the masters Read more [...]

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Memory Shock Therapy

The subtle propaganda of hope and the mistakes of the past This article is dedicated to all who were brave enough to venture into the Chernobyl NPP and stop the biggest nuclear incident, known to man from spreading further into the globe. Thank you! This article expresses my viewpoint of what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. symbolizes. Apart from an open-world RPG shooter, I think there is more to it. For me, the series is much more than a video game. Even if what I will say wasn't done intentionally, I Read more [...]

Miles Morales to take over in The Amazing Spider-Man 4?

Well well well nerds and fanboys, we’re a mere day away from the release of Sony Pictures blockbuster sequel The Amazing Spiderman 2 on April 16 (May 2nd in the US) and whether you love or loathe the direction the franchise seems to be heading, one thing we know for certain is that (aptly named) director Marc Webb will definitely be back for the third installment before stepping down and handing the reigns over to another director for The Amazing Spider-Man 4. But while we’re talking Read more [...]

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

When your lead character is arguably the least interesting member on the Avengers roster and you’re working with a plot straight of ABC’s low budget TV effort Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, it takes a hugely talented team to pull off a film like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but that’s exactly what Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the writing duo who penned Captain America: The First Avenger, and directing brothers Anthony and Joe Russo have managed to do here. Read more [...]

Hotlining

My hands are shaking.   The rubber mask clings to my face, a sauna of sour breath. I try to concentrate on why I’m here but every surface is shivering, distracting.   Focus.   I squeeze my eyes shut and listen for footfalls on the other side of the door. My muscles tighten into painful coils, preparing for what’s to come. One set of steps slides closer. Time slows, and a dreadful clarity descends. The vibrations of the room reach a fever pitch. The door handle starts Read more [...]

How Twitch Plays Pokemon restored my faith in humanity

You could be forgiven for thinking that democracy is a failing system. With revolutions in parts of Eastern Europe, America turning into a George Orwell novel and the global banking system falling around our ears, it’s easy to be cynical about our system of government. It’s enough to make you think maybe we should go back to a feudal monarchy, like the good old days. Yet there’s a ray of light shining through our dark dystopian times, proof that despite the Read more [...]
