Jackie – Film Review

I almost feel annoyed when Pablo Larraín’s “Jackie” is brought up in the same conversation as the sea of countless average “Oscar bait” biopics. At this point the genre mainly consists of underwhelming films with the primary goal of winning awards; and it works too. Think back to recent Academy Award nominated films, “The Theory of Everything”, “The Imitation Game”, “American Sniper”, “The Big Short”, “Trumbo” … etc. Whilst most of these movies are not terrible, they’re usually just bland or ‘okay’. But I can honestly say that “Jackie” has significantly more artistic integrity than not just most biopics, but most movies Read more [...]

La La Land: The Best film of 2016

When I initially left the theatre, I struggled to describe in words the mesmerising nature of director Damien Chazelle’s third feature-length film “La La Land”. Whereas I have never been an avid follower or fan of the musical genre, I’ve also never been opposed to it; whilst I find joy in classics such as “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “The Lion King”, I have found that more contemporary attempts Read more [...]

Miles Morales to take over in The Amazing Spider-Man 4?

Well well well nerds and fanboys, we’re a mere day away from the release of Sony Pictures blockbuster sequel The Amazing Spiderman 2 on April 16 (May 2nd in the US) and whether you love or loathe the direction the franchise seems to be heading, one thing we know for certain is that (aptly named) director Marc Webb will definitely be back for the third installment before stepping down and handing the reigns over to another director for The Amazing Spider-Man 4. But while we’re talking Read more [...]

Fantastic Four to be “darker” and “nothing like the originals” says Vaughn

Since the oddly age inappropriate cast was revealed and some surprisingly racist backlash against the casting of Michael B. Jordan as The Human Torch reared its ugly head (let’s be perfectly honest eh?) we've been waiting for more details on the upcoming reboot of the Fantastic Four which is due to hit theaters in June of 2015. In an interview with Empire magazine discussing the film, producer Matthew Vaughn spilled on some details about what we can expect to see regarding not only Read more [...]

Victory of the Cumber-Dragon! The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Review

(May be slight spoilers) I didn’t want to open my second review in the same fashion as my first but it has to be said again: The Desolation of Smaug had a lot to live up to. The Hobbit was one of the first full novels I ever read and still love to this day. The Lords of the Rings films are amongst my favourite of all time and the first Hobbit gave me very high hopes for what to expect in this sequel. However I have had a natural worry ever since the movies were first split into 3. Read more [...]

Warner Bros Registers Several Names for Several Possible Man of Steel 2 Subtitles

Entertainment news website Fusible.com has reported that Warner Bros has secretly legally registered several potential titles for the upcoming Man of Steel 2 due to hit theatres in 2015. The article can be seen here. This news somewhat clears up the confusion on whether or not the film would actually be titled ‘Batman vs. Superman’ which is what many have referred to the film ever since the announcement was made at Comic Con that the sequel would prominently feature the Dark Knight himself Read more [...]

Justice League: War Trailer

Warner Bros took to Comic Con 2013 to announce that the next of their popular DC animated movies would be Justice League: War. Now the first trailer has arrived and it’s pretty kick ass. Superman and Batman (voiced by Alan Tudyk and Jason O’Mara respectively) team up with Wonder Woman (Michelle Monaghan), Green Lantern (Justin Kirk) and the Flash (Christopher Gorham) to stop an Read more [...]

Trick ‘r Treat 2 to Go into Production

I love me some Halloween and it doesn’t get Halloweenier than 2009’s cult horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat. Although the project is yet to be officially given the green light, it’s said to be in the very early stages, Trick 'r Treat writer and director Michael Dougherty announced at a special fan screening on Monday that a sequel to his Halloween anthology is on the way. "It’s funny because when I first dreamt up the idea of making the first film, I thought, “How neat would it be Read more [...]

Tim Burton Confirmed to Be in Talks for Beetlejuice 2?

So it’s been reported for a few days now that this was rumoured but it looks like Beetlejuice is coming back from the dead after all with Tim Burton himself said to be coming back to direct, and coming from the self-proclaimed world’s biggest Burton fan, it kind of brings to mind that immortal quote from Clerks director Kevin Smith when the sequel was originally announced in 1990 as Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, “didn't we say all we needed to say with the first Beetlejuice? Must we go tropical?” I’m Read more [...]

When Will Marvel Announce Their Phase 3 Film Slate?

Earlier this year Marvel Studios revealed the date for Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man as July 31, 2015 but their plans beyond Ant-Man are somewhat vague. Besides the obvious sequels in the Captain America and Thor solo franchises there are still no definitive plans for a Black Widow solo film or a continuation for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, a real shame as I think they’re both some of the most interesting characters on the Avengers roster by far. There is however plans to get characters such as Doctor Read more [...]
